Independence Day

Cheers for the Estonian Independence Day! (Starring: spicy sprats on rye bread, filled eggs with egg-spratpiss (salty brine) filling, pickles with chillies (pickled by my mother), Moe vodka (from ecologically clean Estonian grain only), fresh tap water (the purest in Estonia) and, as a decoration, some snowdrops (galanthus) I picked in from of my country house earlier today).

Sunstroke

Sunstroke is a misery that can arrive when you live in an area where the temperature can change 50 degrees celcius in just a few months.

11th Youth Song and Dance Celebration "Maa ja ilm"

Has begun! For the first time the dance festival takes place at Lauluväljak along with the singing festival. Reactions are different, Laulväljak fits more spectators, but a stadium offers a better look at the images created by dancers which is kind of a trademark for the festival. Ladies on the tram said: "This is bullshit, Kalevi staadion is the best place for the dance festival and it was a stupid idea to change the location."
Like this teddy bear formed by the youngest dancers.
Running off the stage.
Collecting dancers from all over Estonia, altogether 7554 dancers and 386 teachers who along with an even larger amount of singers will eat 106 400 bowls of soup during the festivities.
All photos taken by Mare Sabolotny 1st of July 2011 at Tallinn Song festival grounds during the main rehersal (hence the lack of crowd).

The day of the Airborne Troops

Den Desantnikov in Jõhvi. Scary, but stylish.

Some russian rock music to make the mood.

And, of course, there was a plane shooting out paratroopers.

Although this one might not have chosen the best colours for his parachute.

Info and pics of how they do it in Russia.

wallpaper dresses

18.06.2010 was graduation day of philosophy department in Tartu University and these two girls made a master in interpreting. They made dresses out of wallpaper because on their first year they were told that "a good interpreter should be unnoticed like wallpaper in a room"
